Northlane Cloud builds infrastructure-as-a-service tooling for mid-market SaaS companies migrating off legacy hosting. We're a 90-person, fully remote engineering org, profitable, and growing our platform team to keep pace with new customer onboarding.
About The Role
You'll be the senior engineer on a 5-person platform team responsible for the internal developer platform - the Kubernetes clusters, CI/CD pipelines, and self-service tooling every product engineer at Northlane depends on daily. This is a build-and-operate role: you'll design the next iteration of our platform abstractions and carry the pager for the systems you build.
Responsibilities
- Design and evolve our internal developer platform (Backstage-based) covering service scaffolding, CI/CD, and deployment self-service
- Operate and scale our multi-tenant Kubernetes clusters (EKS) across three regions
- Own the golden-path CI/CD pipeline templates used by every product team
- Reduce platform toil by identifying and automating recurring manual requests
- Participate in a 1-week-in-5 on-call rotation for platform-owned services
- Mentor product engineers on Kubernetes and infrastructure best practices
Requirements
- 5+ years in a platform engineering, SRE, or infrastructure engineering role
- Deep hands-on experience operating production Kubernetes at scale
- Strong Terraform or equivalent IaC experience
- Experience designing CI/CD systems used by multiple teams, not just your own
- Comfortable being on a shared on-call rotation for platform-critical systems
Desirables
- Experience running Backstage or a comparable internal developer portal in production
- Familiarity with progressive delivery (Argo Rollouts, Flagger, or similar)
- Prior experience in a platform-as-a-product team, not just infrastructure ops
