Beacon Cloud Works helps early-stage startups stand up their first real infrastructure - CI/CD, monitoring, and cloud environments that won't fall over at their first traffic spike. We're a 12-person team, and every intern we've hired full-time started exactly this way.
About The Role
Over 12 weeks, you'll be paired with a senior DevOps engineer and own a real, scoped project end-to-end - past interns have shipped internal CLI tooling, monitoring dashboards, and CI pipeline improvements that are still in use today. This is deliberately structured as a real onboarding into the DevOps discipline, not busywork.
Responsibilities
- Own one scoped infrastructure project for the full 12 weeks, from design doc to shipped result
- Pair regularly with a senior engineer mentor for code review and technical guidance
- Participate in daily standups and sprint planning alongside the full engineering team
- Present your project's outcome to the whole company at the end of the internship
- Write documentation for whatever you build, so it survives past your internship
Requirements
- Basic familiarity with Linux command-line usage and Git
- Some exposure to at least one cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure) - class projects count
- Able to commit to the full 12-week program at 40 hours/week
- Based in the US for payroll/tax purposes
Desirables
- Personal projects involving Docker, CI/CD, or cloud platforms (a GitHub link is great, doesn't need to be polished)
- Coursework or self-study in Linux systems administration or networking fundamentals
- Genuine curiosity about how production systems actually stay up
